Ok, to start I’m not a big KompoZer / Nuvu fan. I’ve tried them both every few releases and have usually absolutely hated them. Most of the time it isn’t because of lack of features, it’s usually because it’s either full of bugs or hid the features away in the deepest and darkest of sub-menus. However, recently I wanted to build a basic HTML / CSS template quickly. Usually I just use gEdit with syntax highlighting turned on, but this time I decided to try KompoZer again (Before hand I hadn’t used it since Jaunty). I was very surprised when I enjoyed the experience! The only thing I found a bit weird was when I tried to make a DIV (it was hidden in the “Body Text” drop-down menu) which required a bit of googleing to find out. I really liked the way it handled CSS making it easier to do things like Z-levels and font-families. The only things I would really want to change are a better source viewer (automatic code clean-up and syntax highlighting) and a more up-to-date version of the rendering engine it uses (I think it’s Mozilla’s gecko?) to allow support of HTML5, as I’m a big fan of using RGBA which isn’t supported, but on the other side it does support the old opacity which is supported by IE. In all I quite like the latest (on my install at least) KompoZer and will probably continue using it!
